Introduction of NJCIT

The Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology (the College) is a state-owned public institution, a high-level higher vocational institution with Chinese characteristics, a national model higher vocational institution, a high-quality specialized higher vocational institution identified by the Ministry of Education, a high-level higher vocational institution identified by relevant authorities of Jiangsu Province, and an excellent higher vocational institution in Jiangsu Province. 

The College's predecessor is Nanjing Radio Industry School, which was established in 1953 as the first secondary specialized school of electronics after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Premier Zhou Enlai, Chen Yi, Tan Zhenlin and Vice Premier Xi Zhongxun visited the College, and more than 3,000 foreign guests and experts have paid visits to the College for exchanges. Over the past 71 years, the College has trained more than 100,000 technically skilled graduates for the community. Located in Xianlin University City, the College covers an area of nearly 700,000 square meters . It has more than 13,000 students, 850 faculty members, fixed assets of RMB 1.274 billion, and various teaching and research instruments and equipment worth RMB 380 million. The College has teaching departments such as the School of Electronic Information, the School of Network and Communication, the School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, the School of Intelligent Transportation, the School of Digital Commerce, the School of Digital Arts, the Department of Quality Education, the Department of Physical Education, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the School of Education and Training, and the School of International Education.

Adhering to the motto of Morality, Ability, Standardization and Innovation, and the principle of Serving all students, serving local economy and information industry, NJCIT aims at strategic emerging industries such as new-generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing and digital creativity. With artificial intelligence (AI) as the foundation, the college builds an AI concentric circle major cluster and serves the information industry chain in the Yangtze River Delta, providing practical cases for the digital transformation and upgrading of information-related majors in higher vocational education institutions nationwide. In 2024, there are 41 majors for enrollment, covering new-generation information technology, high-end software and information services, advanced equipment manufacturing, new energy, electric vehicles, digital creativity, and related service industries. The college comprehensively cooperates with strategic emerging industries in Jiangsu Province, and the match rate with regional key sectors stands at 100%. NJCIT has two national double high-level professional groups, four provincial high-level professional groups, six national backbones majors, two national training bases, three national professional teaching resource databases, six national high-quality online courses, and two national awards for excellent textbooks from the first batch. Additionally, the college has published 22 national planning textbooks for the 13th Five-Year Plan period and 30 for the 14th Five-Year Plan period. We have two national industry-education integration training bases, three provincial industry-education integration platforms and a total of 32 teaching achievement awards at the provincial level and above.

The college actively responds to the strategies of building China into a strong manufacturing country and strong cyber power and Digital China and focuses on the 1650 industrial system in Jiangsu Province. With industry-education integration as the main line and science-education integration as the direction, we cooperate with leading enterprises to build a platform carrier for industry-education integration, and create a new mechanism for industry-education integration of leading enterprises + professional groups + ecosystem. For example, we have cooperated with Huawei and other companies to lead the establishment of three industry-education integration communities including national digital information technology innovation. We have cooperated with Nanjing Jiangning Economic and Technological Development Zone to take the lead in establishing two industry-education consortia, including Nanjing (Metropolitan Area) Industrial Robots and Intelligent Equipment, and also established nine industrial colleges in cooperation with China Electronics Corporation (CEC), JD.com and Estun to build a school-enterprise community of shared future integrating talent training, collaborative innovation and social services, and foster a new ecosystem of industry-education integration for collaborative talent cultivation, science-education integration for collaborative innovation, and cooperative development of scientific innovation. In cooperation with four national development zones, including Kunshan, Wujiang, Taicang and Changshu, a modern apprenticeship model of industrial park + college + enterprise cluster has been formed to provide a Nanxin Solution for exploring and practicing the modern apprenticeship system with Chinese characteristics. The achievements of industry-education integration have been selected into the first batch of typical cases of industry-education integration by the Ministry of Education, the national demonstration vocational education group, the first batch of specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative industrial colleges by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the pilot demonstration project of Sino-German intelligent manufacturing cooperation. NJCIT has become a pilot college for the construction of industry-education integration majors by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, one of the first batch of municipal industry-education consortium cultivation units in Jiangsu Province, one of the first batch of field application engineer training projects in Jiangsu Province, and a typical production practice project of school-enterprise cooperation in vocational education in Jiangsu Province.

NJCIT has 317 in-service teachers with Associate Professor titles or above; 691 teachers with Doctoral and Master's Degrees; 1 National Famous Teacher, 1 National Excellent Teacher, 7 National Technical Experts and Skilled Masters, 1 Provincial Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 4 Provincial Famous Teachers, 2 Provincial Winners of the May 1st Labor Medal, 2 Provincial Excellent Educators, 4 Jiangsu Craftsmen, 1 Jiangsu Craftsman Studio, 2 Jiangsu Skilled Master Studios, 1 Mental Health Education Famous Teacher Studio in Jiangsu Colleges and Universities, and 2 Model Workers Advanced Innovation Studios, 57 Provincial Technical Experts, 5 Provincial May 1st Innovation Experts, 2 Provincial Female Models and 1 Provincial May 1st Female Model; 1 National-level Vocational Education Teacher Teaching Innovation Team, 8 Provincial Excellent Teaching Innovation Teams and 2 Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Teams; 14 trainees of the Provincial 333 Project; 5 doctors of Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship; 52 trainees of the Provincial Qinglan Project; 2 trainees of the Six Major Talent Peaks in Jiangsu Province and 2 Provincial Talent in the Zijin Culture.

NJCIT has implemented the cultivation of Scientific Research Teams and construction of the Technological Innovation Service Platforms. In the past five years, the college has cultivated 51 Provincial Deputy General Managers of Science and Technology, built three Provincial Scientific and Technological Innovation Teams and Technology Transfer Centers, completed the commercialization of more than 200 achievements, and cultivated a Senior Technical Broker Team, making it the first higher vocational college with national advanced qualifications in Jiangsu Province. We have established 5 Provincial Scientific Research Platforms and obtained 6 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. We have applied for 2,220 intellectual property rights and obtained 1,166 authorizations, including 368 authorized invention patents, ranking among the top 10 higher vocational colleges in China. We have participated in the formulation of 36 national industry-enterprise standards and norms. Focusing on the needs of regional enterprises, the college has served more than 2,500 enterprises and more than 2,700 enterprise projects, driving economic benefits exceeding RMB 1.8 billion. The contract turnover of Four Technologies has ranked first among higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu province for three consecutive years.

NJCIT has built platforms such as Overseas Study and Training, Joint Cultivation of Professional Masters and Inter-college Joint Workshops, and a Foreign-related Technical Service Center to provide 113 foreign-related technical services for Belt and Road partner countries. We have been selected as a member unit of the China-Africa Vocational Education Alliance, China-ASEAN Thousand Schools Hands Together Initiative, two Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange Programs of the Ministry of Education, and a member unit of the Luban Workshop Alliance; We have been selected into the Industry-Education Integration Project of the Ministry of Education, International Chinese Teaching Resource Key Construction Project and Future of Africa China-Africa Vocational Education Digital Resources Project, and built two brand majors for international talent training in Jiangsu Province during the 14th Five-Year Plan. The 5G technology and application of virtual simulation competition and practical training platform were recommended as internationally influential vocational education equipment of the Ministry of Education to serve many international events such as the WorldSkills Competition and BRICKS. The college takes the lead in developing a National Higher Vocational Teaching Quality Certification Index System for International Students to serve the national talent training and certification of international students in higher vocational colleges. In collaboration with enterprises, we have jointly cultivated 871 international students, significantly enhancing international influence.

NJCIT is the deputy director unit of the National Industry and Information Vocational Education Teaching Steering Committee, the chairman unit of the Intelligent IoT Specialized Committee of China Society for Vocational Education, the president unit of the Vocational Education Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Taoxingzhi Studies, the director unit of the Jiangsu Provincial Steering Committee for Educational Informationization, and the leading unit of Higher Vocational Professional Certification and Quality Assurance Research Alliance. For five consecutive years, NJCIT has received the highest rating in the comprehensive assessment of high-quality development in Jiangsu Province. It has been listed as an outstanding college in the Annual Report on the Quality of Vocational Education in China for two consecutive years. In 2023, it was acknowledged as an excellent higher vocational college for talent cultivation and service contribution. NJCIT has won over 80 honors, including the May 1st Labor Award of Jiangsu Province, the Excellent College of Huang Yanpei Vocational Education, the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot units of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of comprehensive reform pilot institutes (departments) for three-in-one education, a national model college for digital campus construction of vocational colleges, a construction unit of national healthy school, a national advanced unit for massive sports, an emergency education pilot school by the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of national demonstration bases for root technology talent cultivation, Jiangsu Civilized Campus, and the first batch of demonstration schools for high-quality safe campus construction in Jiangsu Province.

In the past five years, students have won over 1,300 awards in various competitions. These competitions comprise about 60 international honors and 356 national awards, including 16 first prizes in the National Vocational College Skills Competition and 132 awards in the Challenge Cup, Internet +, and other National competitions. More than 97% of graduates work in prosperous areas such as the urban areas of the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, among which over 59% in Nanjing. More than 60% of the graduates engage in key industries such as new-generation information technology, software, high-end equipment manufacturing, and new energy. Moreover, over 40% of the graduates are employed by Fortune Global 500 enterprises and China's top 500 enterprises, industry-leading enterprises, high-tech enterprises, and other high-quality enterprises.

According to the new round of the national Double High-Level Plan, NJCIT has been building itself into a vocational school with the ability to cultivate distinguished vocational undergraduates and establishing itself as a benchmark college for the high-quality development of national vocational education.
