NJCIT Conducts 2021 Earthquake Emergency Drill to Popularize Early Warning and Disaster Alleviation Knowledge and Protect the Lives of Teachers and Students

On the afternoon of May 12, the library, the safety management office, the logistics center and the Dongwu Property Management Co., Ltd. jointly organized an earthquake drill so as to further strengthen the school's safety work, improve the organization and management of earthquake risk avoidance and evacuation drills, and enhance the awareness and ability of all teachers and students in early warning and disaster alleviation of the earthquake. For a safe and orderly drill, the organizing departments have planned the drill area and evacuation route in advance and formulated a detailed work plan.

This earthquake drill includes earthquake risk avoidance, emergency evacuation and search and rescue work. At 14:30 pm, the drill officially started. The staff gave the first air-raid siren to warn of the earthquake, and the participating students immediately took shelter nearby to protect themselves. One minute later, the second siren sounded and students evacuated in an orderly manner under the command of the staff. They followed the designated evacuation route and arrived at the designated gathering place quickly and safely. During this drill, the teachers who participated in the drill were able to be in place in time, stick to their positions and perform their duties, and the students were able to avoid the earthquake and evacuate quickly under the command of the teachers. The whole process was safe, rapid and orderly.

President Tian Min was present to give guidance and deliver a summary speech. He pointed out that this year's May 12 is the thirteenth National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day as well as the thirteenth anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake. Campus safety is closely related to each of our students and teachers. As the saying goes, preparedness ensures success and unpreparedness spells failure. Today's drill is not only an earthquake drill but also a memorial activity to remember the dead and pay tribute to the survivors. It is hoped that all teachers and students can take this earthquake drill as an opportunity to further improve the safety work of the College, eliminate safety hazards in the bud and take preventive measures. The College will make efforts to help the students and teachers keep in mind safety education and master the common sense and skills of earthquake evacuation, and strive to create a safe, harmonious and peaceful campus so as to safeguard the work, study and life and health of all students and teachers.

The theme of this year's National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day is preventing and resolving disaster risks to build a solid foundation for safe development. Before the drill, the organizing departments combined the learning of Party history with their work to provide more useful activities for teachers and students. First, with the help of advertising trusses and tweets from the WeChat official account, they widely publicized the origin of the May 12 National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day and the connotation of the logo, the general knowledge of disaster prevention and mitigation and the diagram of emergency exits in the library to all students and teachers. Second, they conducted relevant training on earthquake risk avoidance and emergency evacuation before the drill.  Third, rehearsal activities were carried out to further strengthen students' awareness of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction and improve their ability to avoid risks in an emergency. This earthquake drill was strongly supported by Xianlin Police Station and Xianlin Squadron of Qixia Emergency Rescue Brigade.
