The first World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference, an international event for vocational education initiated and hosted by the Chinese government, was held in Tianjin on August 19-20. About 700 representatives from 123 countries and regions around the world signed up for the conference. Titled Development of Vocational and Technical Education in the Post-pandemic Era: New Changes, New Methods, New Skills, the conference was held both on the site and online, and consisted of the opening ceremony, the main forum, 14 parallel forums, and the closing ceremony. As representatives of higher vocational colleges, Wang Danzhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of NJCIT, and Tian Min, President of NJCIT, were invited to the conference and delivered keynote speeches in parallel forums.
Wang Danzhong gave a lecture on “Practice of NJCIT in Specialty Upgrading and Digital Transformation” at the parallel forum titled “Digital Transformation and Development of Vocational Education”. He revolved around the five aspects of “digital industry, new occupations, new positions, new skills, and new requirements”, and illustrated the background for technical and skilled personnel training and specialty upgrading, as well as the experience and practice of NJCIT in specialty upgrading and digital transformation.
Tian Min made a keynote speech on Thought on and Practice in the Construction of Professional Groups in Artificial Intelligence at Higher Vocational College at the parallel forum titled Artificial Intelligence + Vocational Education Innovation and Development online with analysis of the demands for cultivation of talents in application of artificial intelligence at vocational collages, and introduction to the building and development of professional groups in artificial intelligence at NJCIT, and its exploration and practice in promote specialty upgrading with intelligent technology.
The distinctive characteristics of NJCIT in school running and its experience, measures and achievements in specialty construction have been recognized by and drawn attention from leaders and experts attending the conference.
It is reported that the first Vocational College Skills Competition and World Expo on the Integration of Vocational Education with Industry were also held along with the conference. An initiative to establish the World TVET League was proposed to build a new platform and paradigm for international exchanges on vocational education featuring “conferences, leagues, competitions, and exhibitions”.
