On January 9, 2022, the Oral English Competition of Jiangsu Vocational Students Skills Competition came to an end at Suzhou Industrial Park Institute of Services Outsourcing. More than 120 contestants from 76 higher vocational colleges in the province participated in the competition. Under the overall planning of Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology, Wang Ziyi and Fang Zhijie, majors in Electronic Information Engineering Technology, won the first prize and the second prize respectively. They were members of the team led by Qin Qin and Yao Jie, teachers of the Department of Quality Education.
The competition consists of a semi-final and a final. The semi-final includes three parts: telling China's story, workplace description and situational exchange with the theme of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The two students performed well in the semi-final and were qualified for the final with the second and third highest scores of their groups. In the final, the contestants communicated with the foreign teachers on the spot, and answered questions with facility, showing their profound language skills and the ability to improvise.
In order to achieve good results in the competition, the teachers of the competition guidance team at the Department of Quality Education started to select outstanding students, and made a coaching plan at the beginning of the semester. In the preparation stage, the teachers carefully analyzed the topics of national and provincial competitions over the years, summarized the important examination points, carried out targeted training, and had regular discussions, so as to optimize the tutoring effect. During the three months before the competition, the teachers provided at least 4 hours of special coaching for the students every day, and a lot of simulation drills, combined with a series of work such as foreign teachers' online coaching. In the competition, the contestants on the stage showed excellent oral English expression ability, and the elegant demeanor of students at the College.
