At 15:00 on May 10, the Lecture on Wisdom and Spirit of Ancient Craftsman: Craftsmanship in the Treasures of Nanjing Museum of Sunflower Lecture Hall Ingenuity Forum was held in the Lecture Hall of the Teacher Development Center on the fifth floor of the library. Wang Guiyang from the Ancient Art Department of Nanjing Museum acted as the lecturer. The Nanjing Museum has collected plenty of ancient art treasures, including 18 most representative ones. This lecture takes these treasures as the clue to demonstrate the wisdom and spirit of craftsman behind cultural relics. More than 40 teachers and students including Xu Jun, Deputy Dean of the School of Digital Arts of NJCIT, participated in the lecture, which was presided over by Lu Hua, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of NJCIT.
Wang Guiyang introduced in detail the wisdom and craftsmanship behind these 18 treasures. These national treasures, which have survived for thousands of years, are still shining brightly. They are all the fine works of the times integrating functionality and beauty. They ooze with the beauty of utensils, techniques, ingenuity and culture, and convey the cultural deposits and confidence of the Chinese nation. Wang told students that objects should be used by people, rather than people being restricted by them. He said that when designing and making objects, we should take into account their functionality, rather than only focusing on its look. He said that he expects students to strengthen their studies through close reading and careful thinking with focused attention and accumulated knowledge, so as to become ingenious experts in their respective areas of expertise.
At the end of the lecture, all the teachers and students expressed their gratitude to Wang with warm applause. Some students said that they felt the spirit of Chinese aesthetics and the wisdom of ancient Chinese craftsman while pursuing ancient Chinese craftsmanship with Wang. They realized that as students of vocational colleges, they should pass down the craftsmanship of ancestors and strive to become great technicians in the new era.
