In order to better promote cultural exchanges between China and Thailand, Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology organized overseas students from Thailand to visit Qixia Ancient Town for on-site teaching of the course Intelligent System Design on October 18. Focusing on the concept of harmony in Chinese culture, this course realizes the creative expression and technical application of Sino-Thai friendship by organically integrating various elements such as Chinese characters, representative visual symbols of China and Thailand, intelligent electronic technology, interactive new media technology, and design thinking and methods.
During the on-site class, teachers and students visited Qixia Story Hall together, where they learned about the history of Qixia Ancient Town, from its establishment as a county in the Qin and Han dynasties, the formation of street markets in the Tang and Song dynasties, to the establishment of official streets in the Ming and Qing dynasties. They also gained an understanding of the vigorous, inclusive and generous architectural style of the ancient town as well as the environmental features characterized by buildings surrounded by mountains and water and nestled along the rivers. Teachers and students listened to professional explanations in the ancient town and walked into the design gallery to appreciate the designers' creativity and the exquisite skills of Chinese manufacturing. During the on-site class, overseas students took out their cameras to take photos of the ancient town and record the millennium architectural form, intangible cultural heritage, and modern expression of bazaars.
The arrival of Chinese and Thai teachers and students brought new vitality to the ancient town. The overseas students were reluctant to leave at the end of the on-site class. They expressed their strong interest in the integration of China's excellent traditional culture with modern science and technology and said that they would apply the newly learned techniques in the follow-up study to create works themed Chinese and Thai people as one family as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand.
